THE OLYMPIC REFUGE FOUNDATION (ORF) AND THE INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEE REFUGEE OLYMPIC TEAM (EOR) HAVE RECEIVED THE 2022 PRINCESS OF ASTURIAS AWARD FOR SPORTS FROM THE PRINCESS OF ASTURIAS FOUNDATION. THE AWARD WAS PRESENTED BY HER ROYAL HIGHNESS LEONOR, THE PRINCESS OF ASTURIAS, TO IOC PRESIDENT THOMAS BACH. HE WAS ACCOMPANIED BY IOC REFUGEE OLYMPIC TEAM MEMBERS ELDRIC SELLA (BOXING) AND MASOMAH ALI ZADA (CYCLING), WHO BOTH COMPETED AT THE OLYMPIC GAMES TOKYO 2020. THEIR MAJESTIES THE KING AND QUEEN OF SPAIN, AND HER ROYAL HIGHNESS INFANTA SOFIA ALSO ATTENDED THE GLITTERING AWARDS CEREMONY AT THE CAMPOAMOR THEATRE IN OVIEDO, SPAIN.

On behalf of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Olympian Yusra Mardini has spoken for the IOC Refugee Olympic Team to highlight the importance of the team in representing over 100 Million displaced people globally at the Olympic Games Paris 2024. Appearing onstage on World Refugee Day at the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity, the two-time Olympic swimmer recalled her escape from Syria during the civil war and her experience of representing the hopes and dreams of refugees globally at Rio 2016.
