The “Twelve Olympians” are the principal deities of the Greek pantheon who reside on Mount Olympus. While the specific roster varied slightly in antiquity, the six core goddesses consistently associated with this elite council are:
Major Olympian Goddesses
Hera: Queen of the gods and goddess of marriage, women, and childbirth. As the wife of Zeus, she is often depicted with a peacock or a crown
Athena: Goddess of wisdom, handicraft, and strategic warfare. She famously sprang fully formed from the head of Zeus and is symbolized by the owl and the olive tree.
Artemis: Goddess of the hunt, the wilderness, and the Moon. A daughter of Zeus and twin sister to Apollo, she is often shown with a bow and arrows.
Aphrodite: Goddess of love, beauty, and desire. According to some myths, she was born from the sea foam (aphros).

Demeter: Goddess of the harvest, agriculture, and the seasons. She is the mother of Persephone and is often associated with wheat and torches.

Hestia: Goddess of the hearth and home. She is often listed as one of the original twelve, though in some later traditions, she gave up her seat to Dionysus to keep the peace.

Other Notable Goddesses on Olympus

Beyond the “Big Twelve,” several other goddesses are considered part of the Olympian household or are “minor” Olympians:

Hebe: Goddess of youth and the original cupbearer to the gods before Ganymede.

Iris: Goddess of the rainbow and a primary messenger for the gods, particularly Hera.

The Muses: The nine goddesses of the arts and sciences (including Calliope, Clio, and Urania) who entertained the gods on Olympus

Nike: Goddess of victory, often seen at the side of Zeus or Athena.

Eileithyia: Goddess of childbirth and a daughter of Hera.
